To The Community

Person to Person logo

Person-to-Person (P2P) is a volunteer-driven, community-supported agency which, through the sharing of goods and talents, responds to individuals and families who lack the basic necessities or resources to improve their lives. More than 90% of all donations go directly to programs.

Wilder Gleason became involved with P2P as a volunteer and was elected to the board in 2008. In June 2011 he was elected to a two-year term as board president and recognized as P2P Volunteer of the Year, in large part due to his pro bono work on the permitting process for the agency’s construction of a new Emergency Food Pantry and renovation/expansion of the adjacent building which houses the agency’s Clothing Center, social services staff and business offices.

“Wilder’s contribution of time and legal expertise to the renovation of Person-to-Person made all the difference in our ability to complete the work on time and meet a very ambitious schedule.  Wilder was present for every walk-through and developed the punch lists to keep everyone on track.  Thanks in part to his volunteer efforts we finished without cost over-runs and without having to close down – Wilder was a significant part of the success of the project!”

In 1988, AmeriCares founded HomeFront – a community-based, volunteer-driven home repair program that provides free repairs to low-income homeowners in Connecticut and New York, enabling them to remain in their homes with an improved quality of life.

Wilder Gleason became involved with HomeFront as an outreach project through Saint Luke’s Parish, joining other parishioners who, on the first Saturday in May, pitch in to help a homeowner in a neighboring community get their residence squared away – making it safer, warmer and more inviting.

Saint Luke’s Parish

Outreach is a cornerstone of the Saint Luke’s Youth Program, in which students in Middle and High School are involved in programs throughout the year, including work outside the Darien community.

Throughout the years, Wilder Gleason has chaperoned Saint Luke’s youth on their annual mission trips to Lewiston, Maine (students in Grades 6-8 join the people of Trinity Church and work in their Jubilee Center, a safe haven for people who are homeless and hungry) and Cass Lake, Minnesota (students in Grades 9-21 travel to the White Earth Reservation to renovate homes and run a Vacation Bible School for the local children).
